would you like to have a breath of the world cup's atmosphere?

World Cup air? It stinks, say China

BEIJING: A Chinese businessman whose efforts to sell land on the moon ran afoul of authorities has similarly failed in his new venture – peddling World Cup air from Germany, state press said yesterday.

Li Jie, who calls himself the head of the “Lunar Embassy”, was denied a permit by a Beijing commerce administration to sell air supposedly from World Cup stadiums for 50 yuan (US$6.4) a bag, the China Daily reported.

Li said he had 25 bags of the “auspicious air” sent to him by a German businessman during world football's premier event this year, according to the report.

“My idea was that fans unable to make the trip to the World Cup in Germany ... could hang the green plastic bags around their necks and breathe in the air while watching matches on television,” Li told the newspaper.

Li filed a lawsuit to challenge the initial decision but lost the case on Wednesday.

In rejecting the application, the government administration said the quality of the air could not be effectively monitored.

Li's effort to sell one-acre plots of land on the moon for around US$35 last year was rejected by the government as fraudulent and illegal. – AFP

This is a news in sports column on thestar online today.

What do you think?

When I first read about this, same as other normal reaction, thinking who would be crazy enough to buy things like that? For a 45 min. football match, it is surely enough to suffocate a person wearing the plastic bag over his head. And where on earth did the chinese business man get that idea from? And imagine a super big fan guy who would be crazy enough to buy that thing and put it on like an astronaut watching live at mamak, or a pub, or anywhere:

some chicks: (giggling)"hey look at that guy..."

some old people: "wah nowadays so high tech, wonder what are these(the green plastic bag) the new generations coming up with."

some children: "mama look! soo cool.... I also want!"

some teens: "Wah siao ah lu?" (means: crazy ah you?)

some people sitting at the back of the 'astronaut', throw an empty can from the back shouting:
"hey your head is too big it's blocking the entire screen ready! Move, move!"

Well then the second thought, this chinese business man could be a really sentimental guy. Sentimental, is when you look back at an object, that will brings you certain memories. Works only with sentimental people. And probably this guy would have collections of his ex girlfriend's (girlfriends') cloths, souveniers, pets, hair, dandruff... his first milk teeth, his first toy model... etc etc. So maybe he would really like to share his sentimental for football with every other people who might have wanted to do so, or maybe something related to stories of moon, or that maybe someone important to him used to tell him: "you know what? I would really like to build a dream world with you on the moon, or living there someday..."(Obviously I made this up I won't know what makes him thinking of selling land on moon.

I used to be like that as well, collect back a flower or leaf from a foreign country and make it into a dry flower bookmark, collect the mineral water from Roman bath, city of Bath as souvenier, collect this collect that.

And during my year in CPU, I'd a very very good year and I would love to be in that course forever. Hence, I've decided to become a sentimental person, to keep every single book i've used in that course, all the projects, etc etc. The text books used in this course have very very thick cover. Think of the cover of a dictionary. Every pages are colourful and waxed. The whole book looks like a photo album because it is so chunky, and with average pages of around... 200 pages is it? Weight exactly 1.5 kg each of them. can't remember anyway but it is around 5 to 6 cm in thickness. And since they were imported from Canada, each of them cost to around RM 150 each... And imagine having 6 subjects in the entire year, that sums up to nearly RM1000.

During the final few months, some of my friends just can't wait to get rid of the books and sell them off to the the juniors in order to get some cash on hand. As for me, I refuse to sell them even people ask me to sell them the books. The reasons are that there are way too many new students and there's only one tiny little book store selling these textbooks around the college. Second, the price of the text books have increase due to inflation of some other reasons, hence people would be more willingly to buy second hand version.

A friend of mine persue me to sell off the books, call him badtzmaru. Because he look exactly like one.

well, that's the black penguin.

Badtzmaru: "Aiyah, sell the books only lah! Why keep the books? They are so heavy, eat up your storage space, becoming food for cockroaches later. See me? I get so much money back after selling them off.

me, wanting to be sentimental but dare not say it out, defending my books by saying:
"Err, next time mah, when I study pharmacy, or engineering, that time might want to refer back to these books... who knows?"

badtzmaru: "You keep the books, just because that makes you feel secure. Just like buying insurance making you feel that you are warranted. Same like books, you will just put them one side and will never touch them. However, you feel secure, because you thought that you can have them whenever you need them. But I assure you, you will never touch them anymore until you clear them out of your store room... Have you ever go back to your secondary school books and refer them back?"

Well he's damn right. Wait! I never keep my secondary school books! Nevermind then that's not part of the story,

ok where are we? Yeah come back to the sentimental thingy,

Actually that's all. I just want to make fun of this chinese business man. And applause for his creativity and bravery.
